Charles “Chuck” Dougherty wrapped his fourth season leading the Patriots in 2024.
In 2024, the team compiled 20-9-1 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Inter-Ac. The team finished the season as Inter-Ac and PAISAA runners-up.
In 2023, the team surged to a perfect 8-0 record in the Inter-Ac, earning their second straight undefeated league title. The team did what no other GA Volleyball team could do and won GA its first ever Volleyball PAISAA Championship. Angie Wang '23 was named Inter-Ac MVP, and GA placed four student-athletes on the All-League team.
The team had great success in 2022, Dougherty's second season, going 22-3 overall and winning the Inter-Academic Athletic League title. The Patriots finished the season as Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association runners-up. Four members of the team were named to the All-League team.
In 2021, Dougherty helped pilot GA to a 10-9 overall record, while going 5-3 in Inter-Ac League play. Three members of the team were selected as All-League performers.
Dougherty is active in the local volleyball scene and has been coaching area volleyball players since 2006. In addition to coaching, Dougherty has also found success as an administrator. He founded the TNT Volleyball Club in 2016 and, as president, grew the program to 15 teams and 155 players by 2020. During his time at the helm, Dougherty has helped several student-athletes in the college recruiting process. He also serves as the director for the Saint Luke volleyball program, a position he has enjoyed since 2009. Since that time, he has grown the program from one team to four teams. By 2012, Saint Luke’s was a perennial playoff team and won the Regional 11 Varsity titles in 2014 and 2016.
Dougherty launched the Glenside AAU Volleyball Program in 2006 and led the program until 2016. During those 10 years, he grew the program to 145 players. In 2015, his 13-and-under team won gold and silver medals at AAU tournaments. He also served as the President of the Glenside Youth Athletic Club from 2006-17 where he was responsible for supporting 1,500 youth sports registrations per year and serving as chairman of an 18-member board and five-person executive board.
As a player, Dougherty is a member of the Ambler YMCA Adult League. He played in the AVB Doubles Beach tournaments (A/BB level) from 1993-97 and for the Raritan Valley Volleyball Club (A/BB level player) from 1993-97. Away from volleyball, Dougherty, who graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts in Management Information Systems and Business, serves as the Senior Project Program Manager at AmeriGas.(Updated: 11/11/24)

Facility
Home to the Patriots' varsity basketball teams and girls' volleyball teams, the Big Gym is located on the far corner of the GA campus and has several entrance points. It can host a full-court basketball game or a full-court volleyball match with a total square footage of 8,915. When pulled out, bleachers can seat approximately 420. The standing room only capacity for the space is 1,626. When used as event space, the Big Gym can hold tables and chairs for a sit-down meal for 524 people. Concession stand space is located right outside of the Big Gym entrance and the restrooms are located below the gym floor. There is no formal ticket booth, but there is an area outside of the main entrance to the Big Gym where a ticket table could be erected as well as a place to sell snacks and drinks.

Hoy concluded her high school soccer career with an impressive 110 goals and 46 assists, earning accolades such as 2008 ESPN RISE High School Girls Soccer Third-Team All-America, NSCAA Regional All-America, and a three-time Inter-Ac League MVP. She was also named 2009 EPYSA Player of the Year, achieved All-State and All-Southeastern Pennsylvania selections, led her team to a national top-25 ranking her senior season, and won the 2009 U-18 US Youth Soccer national title with her club team, FC Bucks Vipers, while excelling in track with All-League and All-State honors.

There's no place like home for Germantown Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday against Parkland. The Patriots blew past the Agnes Irwin Owls 3-0 on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Germantown Academy began its Inter-Ac League title defense on Sept. 20 when it took to Agnes Irwin School for the league-opener for both teams. While the Owls hung tough in the second set, they were no match for the Patriots, who took the match, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16).
